Wauconda Receives Five Star Rating

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) recently unveiled their new Five-Star Quality Rating System.  This system has been designed to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and help identify areas about which individuals, seeking care in a facility, may want to ask questions.  Within a 10-mile radius, Wauconda HealthCare and Rehabilitation, was the only Medicare certified facility to receive this 5-star rating.  “We are very proud of this accomplishment”, said Kathy Berg, Wauconda’s Administrator. 

This rating system is based on result of the Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA '87), a nursing home reform law, and more recent quality improvement campaigns such as the Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes, a coalition of consumers, health care providers, and nursing home professionals.  Nursing home ratings are taken from three sources of data: health inspections, staffing and quality measures.  “Now there is a scoring system that provides the consumers information, which helps to more uniformly compare facilities in the market”, says Jodi Bork, Wauconda’s Marketing Director.

According to the CMS website, nursing homes vary in the quality of care and services they provide to their residents. Reviewing health inspection results, staffing data, and quality measure data are three important ways to measure nursing home quality. This information gives individuals a "snap shot" of the care individual nursing homes give.

Wauconda HealthCare and Rehabilitation Center is a skilled nursing facility which specializes in short-term, subacute rehabilitation and specialized memory support in The Veranda.  In addition to this two-specialty program it also offers traditional long-term care.  Wauconda is the only 5-star rated Medicare certified facility within a 10-mile radius of Wauconda.
